SUMMARY:Movie Night and Discussion: Rafiki - Love\, Resistance and Belonging
DESCRIPTION:The event explores the theme Growing with Pride through a screening of the award‑winning film Rafiki* (2018\, Kenya\, rated\n15+)\, a film currently still banned in Kenya\, followed by a panel discussion. The discussion brings together John Mutiro\, a Kenyan queer activist and programme officer at KIOS\, trans activist Prince Mikel Juao from Malawi\, and a Finnish queer activist (to be confirmed). Moderated by MP and vice-chair of the Finnish All-Party Parliamentary Group on Sexual Rights and Development Hanna Sarkkinen\, the panel reflects on queer growth\, identity\, and resilience across different social and legal contexts. Audience questions are warmly welcome. \nThe event is organised by Seta and Väestöliitto in cooperation with KIOS. \n*Synopsis: “Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives\,” but Kena and Ziki long for something more. Despite the political rivalry between their families\, the girls resist and remain close friends\, supporting each other to pursue their dreams in a conservative society. When love blossoms between them\, the two girls will be forced to choose between happiness and safety.\n\nhttps://pride.fi/tapahtuma/movie-night-and-discussion-rafiki-love-resistance-and-belonging/
