Meeting for social parents
Come and discuss parenthood from the point of view of those who have not given birth!
The meeting is aimed at people who are or will become social parents. The goal is to share feelings and experiences about non-biological parenthood as well as about being a parent who has not given birth. Welcome along, old friends and new acquaintances alike! Tea, coffee and snacks are available. No pre-registration needed. The event is guided by peer volunteers.
The event follows Rainbow Families Association’s Safer Space principles: sateenkaariperheet.fi/yhdenvertaisuus.
Venue address: Haapaniemenkatu 7-9 C, Merihaka, 00530 Helsinki – 2nd floor
Is there sign language interpretation at the event?
No.
Will your event be streamed, or is there an opportunity to participate remotely?
No.
Are there accessible parking spaces near the entrance?
No.
Is there space for drop-off (taxi/private hire vehicle) in front of the entrance?
Yes.
Is the route to the entrance accessible? By accessible route, we mean that the pathway is flat, hard-surfaced, and gently sloping.
Otherwise, an accessible entrance can be found at the car level, but the ramps do not have handrails. At the walking level entrance, there are directions to a nearly accessible entrance (access via the elevator to the lower floor, the car level). Staff and volunteers are happy to assist with the routes.
Is the entrance accessible?
The nearly accessible entrance has a 2 cm threshold at the edge of both the interior and exterior ramps. The exterior ramp is 120 cm long with a height difference of 10 cm (8% slope on both sides). The interior ramp is 60 cm long with a height difference of 5 cm. The ramps do not have handrails.
Can all areas of the event be accessed without barriers?
In the entrance lobby, the doors to the elevator open into a narrow vestibule. The vestibule is too small to maneuver a wheelchair, and its doors are locked. However, the doors to the elevator are directly opposite the entrance doors. Staff/volunteers will come to open the door, which may require a short wait between the elevator doors (the automatic doors will not close if there is something between them). From the vestibule, you enter a spacious foyer. The spaces are open and well-lit. The floor is hard and level. The narrowest point of the pathway is 1300 mm in the foyer. Elsewhere, the pathway width is at least 1700 mm. Therefore, there is ample room for movement with an assistant or guide dog.
Is there a functional induction loop system and necessary signage in the event space?
No.
Is there an accessible toilet in the event space compliant with accessibility requirements?
No.
Other notes on accessibility:
In the premises, there is an accessible toilet. Access to the toilet seat is only possible from the right side, where there is 80 cm of free space. A detailed accessibility description and visual arrival instructions can be found on the website.
