Queer tours to Tommi Toija’s exhibition
This exhibition takes a peek behind the curtains: sculptor Tommi Toija’s fascinating studio will be transplanted in its entirety to Kunsthalle Helsinki from the Lallukka Artists’ Home. The public will have a chance to encounter this multilayered cornucopia of artworks, tools, and inspiring objects.
The Queer Tour examines the artworks and the situation of viewing from a queer angle. The tour aims to create a safe space for pondering, uncertainty and questioning.

Is the route to the entrance accessible? An accessible route means that the pathway is level, hard-surfaced, and has a gentle slope.

Is the entrance accessible?
The barrier-free entrance is located in the backyard of Taidehalli at Ainonkatu 3. Our barrier-free entrance is right at the end of the courtyard, next to the large glass windows. There is a buzzer “Taidehalli ticket office” by the door. By pressing it, our staff will unlock the door. The width of the accessible entrance door is 80 cm, but it can be opened to a width of 130 cm. The door has a gentle 4 cm rise and a 1.5 cm high threshold. There is also a metal ramp in the lobby, which can be used as an aid to the doorway. If you arrive without an escort, please note that the door is quite heavy. Our staff will help you with the door if necessary. There is a buzzer by the door for the Taidehalli ticket office.
Is it possible to access all areas of the event without barriers?
The door to the accessible entrance leads to the lift lobby. The lift takes you to the 2nd floor, where the exhibition is located. The weight limit for the lift is 2000 kg. Once inside the exhibition, our staff will assist you in purchasing your ticket.
The exhibition spaces in Taidehalli are accessible without barriers. Most of the doorways in the exhibition are over 140 cm wide and the narrowest doorways are 119 cm wide. There are no thresholds in the exhibition spaces.
The main entrance to Taidehalli on Nervanderinkatu, leading to the ticket hall, is not accessible. The Museum Shop Kiosk is not accessible. Restaurant Finnjävel is accessible via the restaurant’s barrier-free entrance from the backyard of Taidehalli.
Is there a functional induction loop in the event space and necessary signage?
No.
Does the event space have an accessible restroom that meets accessibility requirements?
No. The larger toilet is located in the Finnjävel restaurant, accessible from the lobby through two glass doors. The door to the large toilet is 90 cm wide. The toilet has space on either side of the toilet seat, but there is limited turning space in an area measuring approximately 120 cm x 120 cm.
Other considerations regarding accessibility:
Accessible entrance is at the back of the house. Guide dogs are welcome to Taidehalli. There is one folding wheelchair in Taidehalli, which can be borrowed from the staff on request.
