Welcome to the Drag Workshop!

City of Helsinki, Youth Pride and Open Stage Finland are together hosting a Drag Workshop for youth (ages 13–17).
During the workshop, you can ask questions and get tips from amazing drag performers – topics include makeup, styling hair and wig, modifying and decorating outfits, and performing.
Meet our fabulous hosts!

KARIANA GRANDI – @karianagrandi
Kariana Grandi is like a juice box that tastes like hot glue. Classical piano background and audiovisual expertise has created a unique foundation for Kariana’s drag, where stories are told through memes, translated schlager music, parody, and lipsync. Kariana’s drag is done on a small budget.
Kariana can give you tips if you’re wondering what can be achieved with a ten-euro thrift store wig, or what products are actually needed for a drag makeup! Kariana’s range of hobbies also includes cosplay, special effects makeup, and music.

TWIGGY MALLET -@queentwiggymallet
Twitty Mallet is a drag artist based in Helsinki with years of experience performing across Finland with a background strongly rooted in dance and theatre. Twiggy’s specialty lies in visually striking, musical-style stage performances and photogenic concepts and it’s important to her to showcase the beauty of drag art through self-designed costumes and makeup – to create cohesive pieces where art is present in every detail.
Twiggy can share knowledge on various wig styling techniques, building impactful drag makeup looks, and the basics of costume design and execution.

XENIA – @dragxenia

Xenia is an award-winning drag queen who has actively performed all around Finland and beyond. Behind Xenia is makeup artist/hairdresser/dancer Ari Helenius. Xenia/Ari has worked years in the beauty industry e.g. as an educator and currently working at H. Kuokkanen wig shop, Kryolan make-up line importing and doing make-up instructions on daily basis.

Xenia can give tips on her drag look and in general on drag queen/king make-up. Where to start, to which products to invest and which you could get for cheaper, contouring etc.

Our fantastic partners Lumene, Kicks and Kalve are providing materials for the workshop. We’ll let you know well in advance if there’s anything you’ll need to bring yourself.
The number of participants is limited to ten (10) – so act fast to secure your spot!
