Helsinki Pride is Finland’s largest and most influential human rights and cultural event—and it wouldn’t be as vibrant and spectacular without our volunteers. Pride Month is celebrated in Helsinki throughout June. Volunteers can participate in various tasks during the entire month, but most volunteer roles occur during Helsinki Pride Week, from 23 June to 26 2025. You can choose to do one or several shifts. Shifts typically last 4–6 hours, depending on the task. We invite all applicants to commit to the volunteer work once accepted.

We are looking for volunteers for the following roles:

  • Info Points and Shop

There are info points and shops in three locations: Pride House, the Parade starting point in Senate Square, and the Park Celebration in Kaivopuisto. Volunteers will assist visitors, share information about events and the Helsinki Pride community, and sell official Pride products. Shifts are available throughout Pride Week (June 23–29).

  • Decoration Team

Planning and making decorations for the event will occur at Kaapelitehdas in Helsinki on 16 June. Decorating different event locations will occur during Pride Week on June 19 and 27.

  • Photography Team

Photographing events and impact campaigns during Pride Week across Helsinki. The photography team is required to have their own camera equipment, and previous photography experience is preferred.

  • Pride Parade Guides

At the parade starting point in Senate Square, guides help participants find their place there. Guides play a crucial role and will receive prior training in the afternoon on Thursday, 26 June.

  • Park Team

Helps with functional activity points such as the children’s and youth areas, welcomes partners, and ensures the cleanliness of the food areas in the park. The Park Team works on Saturday, 28 June, and training will be held on Friday, 27 June afternoon.

  • Event Production Volunteers

Assist event producers during Pride Week (June 23–29), especially on Friday and Saturday. Tasks include artist catering, welcoming performers, and helping with simple production duties. Some of this work may take place during evening or nighttime hours.

  • Harassment Contact Persons

In this role, you’ll be present at events during Pride Week and help manage the harassment contact phone—answering calls and texts and monitoring a feedback form. A hybrid training session will be held on Wednesday, 18 June, from 18:00 to 20:00, led by Helsinki Pride’s training coordinator, Touko Niinimäki—an experienced expert in harassment contact programs. Participants will receive a certificate of training and participation after the event.

  • Safe adults at Youth Pride

In this task, you will act as a safe adult for a group of young people during the Helsinki Pride parade on June 28. The role includes, among other things, encouraging the youth and looking after them during the parade (e.g., providing water, sunscreen, or first aid supplies if needed). You will walk with the youth block in the parade and afterward accompany them to the Youth Pride area at the Park Celebration.

Additionally, the task may include acting as a safe adult at the Youth Pride closing event on 28 June, where you may, for example, escort young people to and from the event, which takes place through the Bassline Festival organized at the City Museum.

What we expect from volunteers?

  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
  • We hope all volunteers will have a relaxed and cheerful attitude.
  • You don’t need previous experience or special skills, although they are always a plus! Let us know if you have relevant background or experience when applying.
  • Most importantly, we want the experience to be fun, and together, we’ll make Helsinki Pride unforgettable!
  • If you need to cancel after applying, please inform our volunteer coordinator, Tiina Thomas, as soon as possible: tiina@pride.fi

Want to become a lead volunteer?

We’re also looking for lead volunteers during Pride Week! As a lead volunteer, you’ll be responsible for a small team—sharing information, supporting communication, and helping to build team spirit. This is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership and coordination experience. Lead volunteers will be interviewed remotely during Week 21, and the orientation will be held on 5 June from 17:00–19:00 at Kaapelitehdas (remote participation possible).

Why volunteer at Helsinki Pride?

  • Volunteering is fun and a great way to meet like-minded people and join the Helsinki Pride community.
  • You’ll gain valuable experience in NGO and event work.
  • You’ll be part of an essential human rights movement.
  • Get a behind-the-scenes look at Finland’s biggest human rights and cultural event.
  • You’ll receive a certificate of participation.
  • You’ll be invited to a Kick-Off event and the afterparty (karonkka) after Pride Week.
  • Volunteers are insured by the organizer (insurance applies only to people officially residing in Finland; others must provide travel insurance).
  • You’ll get a volunteer T-shirt, light snacks, and drinks during your shifts.
