Frequently asked questions
Who can join Helsinki Pride Community?
Anyone who accepts the purpose and rules of Helsinki Pride Community and its activities.
I am cis-straight, can I still become a member?
Yes. All supporters of human rights are welcome, regardless of sexual orientation, gender or any other trait.
How do I apply to become a volunteer?
We open a call for volunteers two times a year, in the spring and in the fall. Applying is easy through our online application form. Once the application period is over applicants are invited for interviews and chosen new volunteers are given a two day training on volunteering with us.
There is a separate application process for Pride Week volunteers, announced yearly.
What kind of volunteer work can I do?
Generally our volunteers work in your year-round community activities, or in different Pride Week production tasks from communication and translations to traffic control during the week.
Do I need to be a member to take part in Helsinki Pride Community activities?
No, you do not have to be a member. Everyone is welcome to participate, whether they are members or not.
How do I get involved?
For example by showing up any time there are open activities! In case you want to know a bit more before jumping in you can come to one of our newcomer nights, usually arranged once a month, or contact our instructors.
What age group are your activities for?
Activities for youth are generally aimed for children over 13 years and arranged in cooperation with municipal youth services. Activities are targeted thematically and according to age.
What kind of support do you offer sexual and gender minority asylum seekers?
Our support work consists of one-on-one meetings and closed group peer support activities. For professionals working we offer training and consultations. Please contact Yasmin for more information.
Why do appointments have to be booked through the social worker or employee at the reception centre?
This way we can have a translator present. Helsinki Pride Community does not have funding for translation services, so please note that if you need a translator present you have to book the appointment through a reception centre employee.
