The history of the asexual flag dates back to the summer of 2010 when a number of asexual sites designed multiple different flags, and the winner, chosen as the community’s own pride symbol, was decided by a vote. In this winning version, the top black stripe of the asexual pride flag represents asexuality itself, the lower gray stripe represents the grey-area between sexual and asexual and related sexualities such as demisexuality. The white stripe represents non-asexual partners and allies, and the purple represents community.
