On behalf of HeSeta ry, we the board feel we cannot remain quiet, and it is our duty to comment on the events we see happening to the LGBTIQ* community in the United States of America, under the Trump administration. It is with great sorrow that we hear of the LGBTIQ* discrimination happening to the community in the USA. In solidarity we release the following statement:
There is an alarming increase of anti-LGBTIQ* action by United States legislators and governmental departments. More alarming is that these actions seem to be geared towards the infrastructural securities that are part and parcel of every person’s inalienable human rights: education, safety, employment, healthcare and now the right to exist. On October 21st, 2018 New York Times reported a leaked Trump memo claiming that “transgendered people don’t exist”.
We cannot stand by, as we watch open discrimination happening. We stand strongly in opposition to the lifting of nondiscriminatory bans, and the deliberate encouragement of religion-based objections to nondiscrimination laws, as most recently conducted by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program (OFCCP) in August of 2018.
We urge the American people to vote in the upcoming midterm elections to protect the rights of their LGBTIQ* peers, next Tuesday, November 6th, 2018. We must stand strong and resist the unraveling of the human rights efforts that are the core of our work, mission and purpose. We must stand strong.
Sincerely,
The Board of HeSeta
