We demand better
access to healthcare and safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ people
Social and healthcare services for LGBTQIA+ people must be a priority, as well as safer spaces for integration for LGBTQIA+ migrants.
We call for actions against hate crimes targeting LGBTQIA+ refugees
We demand better recognition, documentation, and consistent action against hate crimes and multiple discrimination targeting LGBTQIA+ individuals.
We demand an anti-racist immigration policy
The government must respect international human rights agreements in both policy and legislation.
Our chosen family. It's the people we confine in, we’re open to and happy to be with all the time.
Chosen family to us has meant love. It has meant the power of being what we didn't know we were. And it means expression without boundaries.
Yeah, we've cried, but at the end of the road, we are smiling. We are laughing, we've got love, we've got to cross all that we didn't know we would cross. Here we are.

We didn’t know what Pride really meant before coming to Finland. In our home country, we experienced persecution and violence since we were children, so we never felt proud of who we are. But now, we can finally feel proud of ourselves.
In Finland, we are safe and can live our everyday life as a real couple. But the fear of being sent back still casts a shadow over everything. We would love to get married and start a family, but without a residence permit, it’s impossible.
To us, Pride means a movement that fights for their own rights and the rights of others.

I was granted a residence permit in 2017. I didn’t come here for money or work – I had a good life in Iraq. But the society around me couldn’t accept me. I became a target of violence and threats. The process for a residence permit was difficult, and it really left its mark in me. For two years, I lived in uncertainty and constantly had to prove my sexuality.
In Finland, I can walk down the street as myself, and I can create the art I love. For the future I’m hoping for a nice secure job.
I’m at peace with who I am, and I hope that everyone gets to live their life without fear.

In Finland, I’ve been able to step outside in peace. I can go to job interviews without the fear that my gender will become a problem. I am a real person here.
But on the other hand, during the past six months, I’ve been denied the hormone treatment I need three times. Hormone treatments are not considered essential healthcare. Not receiving hormones deeply affects my sense of self, and I don’t feel at home in my body.
Pride, to me, means unconditional love and I draw strength from the community to keep believing in the future.
